Karl Robinson says that he does not know the reasons surrounding why Gillingham terminated former Charlton Athletic trainee Josh Wright’s contract.

Wright, who made three first-team appearances at Charlton, is a free agent after mutually agreeing to have his contract terminated in August by the Kent club.

When asked if he was surprised that the Gills let Wright go, Robinson said: “I think sometimes when you look at these things, we all look from the outside, myself included and yourself and fans alike, we do not know the real in-depth things that go on in and around any other football club.”

The 27-year-old scored 13 goals last season, and the Addicks’ opponents on Saturday could do with Wright’s goals this term as they’re sitting bottom of the League One with zero wins to their name.

Robinson continued: “We all know he is a quality player. But, at the end of the day, it is Gillingham’s job not my job to comment on who should and should not be at their club.

“Or, I am not Josh Wright either, determining on where I want my career to go. But he is a good player, I have spoken several times about the quality he possesses.”
