Former Charlton midfielder Diego Poyet has joined Cypriot First Division side Pafos.

The 22-year-old was without a club after leaving Argentinian outfit Godoy Cruz in the summer.

It has been a fall from grace for Poyet, who was one of Charlton’s biggest stars from their renowned academy.

He featured prominently in the second half of the Addicks’ 2013/14 campaign, but rejected a new deal and moved to West Ham.

The ex-Uruguay Under-20 international failed to break into the Hammers’ first-team and spent time on loan with Huddersfield, MK Dons and Charlton, before having his contract mutually terminated.

After a disappointing spell with Godoy Cruz, Poyet, who was on trial at Cardiff earlier this summer, is looking to rebuild his career with Pafos.
