Karl Robinson has compared new signing Joe Dodoo to Arsenal starlet Stephy Mavididi after the Rangers loanee scored on his Charlton debut.

Dodoo came off the bench to net the Addicks’ fourth goal in an exciting 4-3 win over Oldham on Saturday.

The 22-year-old forward joined the club on deadline day from Rangers, and made the perfect start to his Charlton career with a cool 72nd-minute finish.

And Robinson drew similarities between Dodoo and Mavididi, the striker who he had on loan at the Valley last season.

The Charlton manager said: “Young Joe coming on to make his debut, he showed why we brought him in.

“He’s raw and quick. He reminds me a little bit of Stephy the way he moves.”

Robinson plans to play Dodoo as a number nine to rival Josh Magennis for a starting berth.

The former Leicester City man endured a tough debut season with Rangers, scoring just five goals after his £250k move.

And Robinson reckons Dodoo can prove his doubters wrong during his loan spell, which runs until January.

He added: “Joe has a point to prove. He knows he hasn't performed in Scotland. He went up there as a bit of a teen sensation.

“I know that Joe is a top player. He plays off the cuff and hopefully he can grow with this team.

“We’re young and energetic and he’s another one of them. Getting a goal on his debut is great for him.”
