Goals from Patrick Bauer and Josh Magennis made it back-to-back league wins for Charlton.

The Addicks survived a few scares from a physical Rotherham side, but were well worth the victory.

Addicks boss Karl Robinson kept faith with the same players who comfortably beat Northampton 4-1 at the Valley last weekend.

Charlton winger Tariqe Fosu started brightly, running at the Rotherham back-line and winning a free-kick just outside the box. But former Rotherham loanee Jake Forster-Caskey failed to hit the target.

The Millers should have been in front in the eighth minute when Jamie Proctor somehow prodded the ball wide from close-range. Ahmed Kashi had uncharacteristically lost possession, and Kieffer Moore crossed to the former Bolton striker, who couldn't finish.

Moore, who had scored four goals in Rotherham first three league games before today, tested Ben Amos with a powerful drive moments later, which the goalkeeper held.

But that Proctor miss would come back to haunt Rotherham when Charlton took the lead in the 16th minute thanks to Bauer’s header from a Forster-Caskey corner.

Charlton were fortunate not to concede an equaliser as former Addicks academy starlet Semi Ajayi directed his free header wide from five yards out.

The Addicks were pegged back for most of the first-half, but would have doubled their lead just before the break if it wasn’t for Richard O’Donnell’s heroics. The goalkeeper superbly tipped Ricky Holmes’ curling effort round the post.

Rotherham piled the pressure on Charlton at the start of the second-half with Jason Pearce and Bauer clearing dangerous balls from the box.

Magennis was unlucky to see his 30-yard thunderbolt fly just past the post in the 61st minute. But Magennis, from much closer range, doubled the Addicks’ advantage five minutes later when he headed home Holmes’ cross.

Rotherham nearly responded straight after, however, Amos did well to beat Ajayi’s powerful shot away from goal.

The Addicks’ defensive class was on show for the remainder of the contest as they conformably held on.
