Former Charlton defender Carl Jenkinson has joined Birmingham on a season-long loan from Arsenal.

Jenkinson has found regular first-team football hard to come by under Arsene Wenger since leaving the Valley to join the Gunners in a £1m deal in 2011.

The Charlton academy graduate played nine times for the club before making the move to north London.

He enjoyed two successful loan spells with West Ham, but made just five appearances for Arsenal last season.

Now, Jenkinson will get some much-needed game-time with Birmingham in the Championship.

Blues boss Harry Redknapp said: “He’s played at Arsenal and been out on loan at West Ham as well.

“We’re delighted to have him, he brings experience, he’s got pace, he’s a really attacking right-back. I think he’s a really good signing for us.

“I’m surprised I managed to get him in the Championship because there were a few Premier League teams in for him as well. I’m really pleased to have him.”
