Crystal Palace turned it on late to dispatch Ipswich Town 2-1 at Selhurst Park and progress into the third round of the Carabao Cup.

A double from midfielder James McArthur in the last 15 minutes was enough to diffuse a young Ipswich side growing in confidence as the game remained level.

Although Bersant Celina would snatch a clean sheet away from Julian Speroni in the end, changes made by manager Frank de Boer saw off the Championship side on a wet and windy night in south London.

Here is how News Shopper rated Crystal Palace's players...

Julian Speroni – 6 – Most memorable highlight was skipping past an onrushing Ipswich attacker, much to the raucous celebrations of the Selhurst Park support.

Martin Kelly – 6 – Became more aggressive as time elapsed and Palace pushed to break the deadlock. Could have done more to prevent the Ipswich consolation, but otherwise went unchallenged for most of the 90.

Scott Dann – 6 – The primary instigator from the back, he occasionally launched flighted balls into the path of Kaikai and Lokilo. Was brought off on the interval but did his part to lead from the back.

Joel Ward – 6 – One third of an assured back three which dealt with Ipswich’s challenges with relative ease.

Jeffrey Schlupp – 7 – The more advanced and promising of the two advanced full backs who complimented Townsend well when Palace advanced further afield.

Patrick Van Aanholt – 6 – One of the furthest forward and was involved in a couple Palace attacks, though ultimately not enough of a presence to change the tone of the game.

James McArthur – 9 – Although Cabaye is Palace’s creator-in-chief, McArthur’s adventurous runs paid off. Grabbed a deserved brace on the night and almost always had an influence in the final third, particularly after the introduction of Townsend and Lee Chung-Yong. Man of the match.

Jason Puncheon – 6 – He interchanged with Cabaye and McArthur as Palace’s one-two punch in the middle, and was involved in several chances. Reasonable performance, though McArthur and Cabaye were more influential.

Yohan Cabaye – 7 – Lacked the incisive touch to punish Ipswich’s misgivings at the back. His through passes simply did not do enough to trouble an otherwise resilient Ipswich defence. Still, a disruptive presence when going forward in nearly every situation.

Jason Lokilo – 6 – Began to look lively after the introduction of Townsend and Lee Chung-Yong, taking up a more central position. Had two chances – both close to the six-yard-box – but failed to capitalise. His second half performance, particularly in the last 20 minutes, was much better and appeared to gain confidence as time went.

Sullay Kaikai – 6 – Looked the better of the two forwards, but shot accuracy was rarely on target or threatening. Never really penetrated the box in a passive performance before being replaced.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah – 6

Andros Townsend – 8
