Millwall were left frustrated after drawing 1-1 with Bolton.

The Lions dominated large spells of the game, and went in front thanks to George Saville’s 49th-minute goal.

But the strike was cancelled out by Filipe Morais’ excellent free-kick.

Here are five things we learned…

Results are not backing up the performances

Just like last Friday at Nottingham Forest, Millwall dominated the game. Neil Harris’ side amassed 14 shots, to go with 23 at Forest, but have just one goal and one point to show for their efforts. If Millwall are to survive in this league they need to be far more clinical and they lacked ruthlessness when ahead against Bolton.

Harris was happy that the Lions secured their first point of the season, but felt like they should be on six points.

Meredith continues to impress

You can see exactly why the summer signing from Bradford is keeping club captain Tony Craig out of the team. Meredith repaid his manager’s faith in giving him his second consecutive league start by producing another encouraging display against Bolton.

The 29-year-old showed energy at both ends of the pitch and formed a good understanding with Shane Ferguson to cause Bolton problems in the first-half.

Home form will be key

When Millwall last came up to the Championship [2010/2011] they boasted the eighth best home record in the league. Their 12 wins and 42 points played a major part in their ninth placed finish. The Lions were roared on by a crowd of more than 12,000 at the Den against Bolton and they played their part in trying to push their team on to find a winner.

Harsh lessons being learned

Millwall have already found out how big the step-up is from League One to the Championship after totally dominating their opponents for the second week running and once again failing to capture the three points. The Lions will play far worse this season and win games. They reduced Bolton to just two shots on target, but were punished when Morais struck just past the hour mark.

Lee Gregory and Steve Morison must play closer together

The pair scored 37 goals between them in League One last season, but on this viewing, they won’t get close to that number this time around. The link-up play wasn’t as fluent as it was at the City Ground and Millwall suffered as a result.

Apart from a long-range Morison effort that was easily saved and a second-half Gregory effort that was tipped round the post for a corner, neither caused Bolton much trouble.
