Ben Reeves is set to sign for Charlton today, News Shopper understands.

Reeves, who Charlton boss Karl Robinson has been chasing throughout the summer, will train with his new team-mates this afternoon.

Speaking ahead of the Addicks’ League One opener against Bristol Rovers, Robinson said: “We’re very close to bringing someone in. I can’t say who it is. Tariqe Fosu’s been out throughout the course of pre-season, Ricky Holmes has been out and Billy Clarke had an ankle problem.

“When you look beyond them, we don't have anyone. We have three players who play in that offensive position, who are very attacking but we only have four right now.

“We need somebody else to fit in there. So, we’ll have to see what today brings. Hopefully he’ll be training with us today.

“I’d like to think we’d have someone in by Saturday and we could use him. It doesn't take a genius to work out who it is.”

Robinson is a big admirer of Reeves after bringing the 25-year-old to MK Dons in 2013.

But the midfielder rejected a contract extension from the Dons, and left the club in May. He also snubbed an offer from Championship new boys Bolton.

When asked about Reeves, Robinson added: “He stayed in Greenwich last night so people will put two and two together.

“We’ll see what materialises throughout the course of the day, he’s a player I’ve always wanted from day one.

“Every time Charlton played against MK Dons, he was the star player. Ben Reeves will always be a fans’ favourite because he gets you off your seats.

“I know the player, he had the thing in Spain and then he had to make a decision over the last two weeks on what was best for his career and I know what his decision is.”
