Charlton have signed Bolton goalkeeper Ben Amos on a season-long loan.

Amos, who came through the ranks at Manchester United, is set to be the Addicks’ number one for the 2017/18 campaign.

The 27-year-old stopper had a disappointing loan spell with Cardiff last season, only making 16 appearances, and is hoping for better luck in SE7.

He said: “I’m really happy to have signed and I’m looking forward to getting back playing again.

“This is a massive club, promotion is our ultimate goal and I hope that I can play my part in helping Charlton be successful.”

Charlton boss Karl Robinson has been trying to bring in another senior goalkeeper to compete with Dillon Phillips, who is now likely to head out on loan.

Phillips has featured heavily in Charlton’s pre-season games, however, new boy Amos will bring much-needed experience between the sticks.

Robinson added: “We’re delighted to bring in a goalkeeper of the experience and pedigree that Ben has. He’s played a lot of games in the Championship.

“I’ve spoken with Ben and he has a real drive and determination to help get this club promoted.”

Former England Under-21 international Amos has had several loan spells at clubs such as Peterborough, Oldham and Hull.

He left Manchester United to join Bolton on a permanent deal in 2015, but suffered Championship relegation in his debut season.

Speaking about his Valley arrival, Charlton chief executive Katrien Meire said: “The goalkeeper position was an important one for us this summer.

“We’re very pleased to be able to bring in Ben, especially as it has taken a bit longer than we wanted to get everything complete.”
