Former Charlton fans’ favourite Lawrie Wilson has joined Port Vale.

Wilson, who was without a club following his release from Bolton, has signed a two-year deal at Vale Park.

The right-back will try to get his new club back up to League One at the first attempt.

Wilson, 29, said: “I met with the gaffer a few times over the last couple of weeks and I had a couple of options that were open. Once I had spoken to Michael Brown, it was a no-brainer really.

“He really sold the club to me, his style of play and the way he wants to manage and that's what I wanted to be a part of.

“Any position the gaffer asks me to play I will always give everything I've got. It's better to be out there on the pitch than watching on from the bench.”

Wilson made over 100 appearances for the Addicks during a three-year spell.
