Norwich have slapped a £16m price tag on Newcastle and Crystal Palace target Jacob Murphy.

The Magpies are believed to have had an £8m bid turned down by Norwich chiefs.

And they will need to double their first bid if they want to land their man, who impressed for Norwich in the Championship last term.

Murphy scored 10 times in a breakthrough season at Carrow Road and his stellar performances for England’s Under-21 side have placed him on Newcastle and Palace’s radar.

The Eagles, who signed Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek on Wednesday, need cover for wingers Wilfried Zaha and Andros Townsend.

And Murphy, 22, could be the right man to push Zaha and Townsend, who had little competition last season.

However, it is understood that the young English winger would favour a move to Newcastle to work with former Real Madrid boss Rafa Benitez.
