Russell Slade insists his struggling Charlton side will “dig very deep” to recover from their poor run of form.

The Addicks have not won a League One game since August 20 and were beaten by League Two outfit Crawley Town in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

The South Londoners sit in 18th position in the third tier of English football and have only scored three goals in their last six games.

Slade said: “As a team we’re not in the place we want to be – we’re not in a good place at the minute. I’m honest enough to realise that and see that.

“We’re aware what we need to do in the coming days before our next home game.

“The one thing is, the attitude and work ethic to improve and get better was there. What we don’t want is any confidence issues coming into our game.

“We need to stay strong, mentally tough and ensure that we dig very deep and work very hard to try to establish a high level of consistency in our performances.”

Charlton now have a 10-day break before returning to league action with a home game against Coventry City.

Slade admitted there was much to improve during the break, adding: “It’s how we use it now and we can’t waste a second.

“There’s a lot of work to be done and we will do that to ensure we are better for it and are more productive.”
