Manchester United, Arsenal and Everton were among a host of clubs culpable of completing overpriced transfer deals this summer, according to a study.

The CIES Football Observatory has analysed the major transfer moves across Europe and produced a list of the top 20 sales, based on players’ estimated value compared to the actual fee paid.

The estimated fees are based on a range of factors including age, experience, international recognition and performance.

CIES rank Gonzalo Higuain’s £75m move to Juventus as the most overpriced during the summer window, while Eric Bailly's switch to Man United is the most inflated in the Premier League.

Yannick Bolasie’s £25m deal to join Everton from Crystal Palace features at No.4 on the list, with CIES saying the Toffees paid nearly £19m over the odds for the DR Congo winger.

Arsenal’s move for Granit Xhaka, Chelsea’s deals for David Luiz and Marcos Alonso and Paul Pogba’s switch to Old Trafford also feature in the top ten.
