Andros Townsend has heaped praise on former Tottenham teammate Danny Rose, saying the defender is the best left-back in the country.

Rose, 26, is nearing 100 league appearances for Spurs and featured heavily at Euro 2016 for England.

And Crystal Palace summer signing Townsend has revealed Rose is one of his favourite players to compete against.

The winger, who left Newcastle United earlier in the summer, told Sky Sports: “To be honest, the player I like playing against the most is Danny Rose.

“He's probably the best left-back in the country in my eyes.

“In training at Spurs we used to go at it in the sessions and we'd kick each other a lot so I do enjoy playing against him.”

Townsend has already played four games for the Eagles this term following his switch from St James’ Park.

And the 25-year-old is excited for the season ahead, especially given the signings Palace made towards the end of the window.

“I’m definitely excited with the signings we’ve made in the last few days,” he added.

“It'll be good to get the transfer window closed, get everyone focused and really look forward to an exciting season with the current crop of players that we've got.”
