Russell Slade intends to dive back into the transfer market before the summer window closes.

The Charlton boss has brought nine players to SE7 since he arrived at the club – although he admits the squad is still not where it needs to be.

The Addicks were patient in their efforts to land Declan Rudd and Jason Pearce and Slade says the club will stick to that policy with one particular target.

“There’s 13 days left and we still want to do a little bit more business,” Slade said.

“We’ve been looking at our targets and then re-looking at them as the window has gone on.

“We’ve been patient with the ones we really, really wanted and that’s the case with one of them that we’ve identified now.”

After the draw with Northampton Town on Saturday, Slade said he hoped to bolster his squad with the signing of a central midfielder.

And the former Cardiff City boss insists it will be important that any new arrival offers something different on the pitch.

He told News Shopper: “We’ve got good midfielders at the club so it’s about looking for something a bit different to what we’ve already got.

“It’s like putting a jigsaw together and making sure we’ve got all the pieces that can help us either win or save games.

“It is different types, players who can bring something different to the group to get a balance.

“I talk about the group a lot, not just the starting eleven, it’s important that you believe in that group.”

Slade, 55, added: “It takes different things to win a football match and as a manager you need those cards, even if you’re playing them midway through the second-half.

“It’s important to have those bodies around you who can change games or ensure that you win a game.”

Charlton still have several first-team regulars sidelined through injury and Slade believes it is imperative to strengthen ahead of a testing campaign.

“We’re still not where we want to be, we will need to be stronger as the season goes on,” the boss said.

“It’s a huge season with over 50 games so you’ve got to have a group capable of going the distance.”
