Bromley boss Neil Smith says Russell Slade was “very complimentary” after the Ravens sealed a surprise 2-1 win over the League One club.

Smith’s side took a two-goal lead through goals from summer signing George Porter and triallist Blair Turgott.

Young Charlton striker Brandon Hanlan halved the deficit with a fine volley, but Bromley held on for an encouraging victory.

When News Shopper asked Smith what Slade said to him after the full-time whistle, the Bromley boss said: “I have known Russell for years and he’s a fantastic person.

“He said that we’ve clearly got a good little squad down here at Bromley – I think he was impressed.

“He was obviously disappointed with the result but he was looking to get fitness out of the game more than anything else.

“He was very complimentary and if you get nice words from someone like him – a really top, experienced manager – you’re clearly doing something right.”

Smith also revealed Slade had told his counterpart that he was open to helping him through the season if the Bromley squad required bolstering.

“Russell also said he was open to getting a little partnership going,” Smith added.

“If we ever want a player he said to phone him up and if something can be done to suit both clubs it will happen – that was really promising for the upcoming season.”

The club confirmed on Sunday that they were unable to retain the services of fans’ favourites Moses Emmanuel for the upcoming season.

The striker was out of contract and is currently on trial with League One side Gillingham.

“Moses is a centre forward and they are in there to score goals,” Smith added.

“He would score goals in any division I think. He decided to look for another club and he’s had several clubs looking at him I believe.

“We don’t have any problem with Moses – even when he realised he was going to look at options he still gave his all and performed well for us.

“We can only wish him well.”
