Bromley ended the season at Hayes Lane on Saturday, with their second consecutive 3-1 defeat, having lost last weekend to Gateshead by the same scoreline.

This was a typical end-of-season affair between two mid-table sides with nothing but pride to play for.

On a poor playing surface it was Aldershot Town who opened the scoring in the 11th minute.

Ali Fuseini had just shot narrowly wide for Bromley, and from the resultant goal kick, Aldershot broke quickly and Dan Walker’s cross was converted from close-range by his namesake Charlie, just getting to the ball before the advancing Bromley goalkeeper.

The lead lasted just five minutes as Bromley levelled the scores with a brilliant 25-yard half-volley by Fuseini, after Adam Coombes’s cross from the right was only partially cleared.

Another quick break by the visitors nearly led to a second goal as Giorgio Rasula crossed for Dan Walker, whose shot on the turn flew over Alan Julian’s crossbar.

The visitors were having far and away the better of the exchanges, and the Bromley custodian was called upon to parry a rather weak header from the unmarked Jim Stephenson.

The second half deteriorated as the half went on, but it may have been different if Fuseini’s 30-yard drive had not been saved by Dan Thomas shortly after the break.

However this was to be Bromley’s only shot on target in the whole of the second half.

The visitors took the lead on 63 minutes with an own goal.

A very poor clearance from Rob Swaine was seized upon by Rasula, who ran forward before shooting at goal.

Julian seemed to have the effort covered, but Sean Francis hung out a leg to divert the ball away from the goalkeeper and into the net.

12 minutes later Aldershot completed the scoring when they capitalised on some more sloppy defending.

A pass back was cleared upfield by Julian straight to Jack Saville, who headed the ball back to the unmarked Charlie Walker to turn and fire home past a stranded goalkeeper.

Aldershot had strong appeals for a penalty in the closing stages as Browne’s shot appeared to be blocked by a hand, but the referee was not interested.

Bromley’s defeat means that they only recorded one victory in their final nine games of the season, which sees them finish 14th in their first season of National League football.
