Katrien Meire says the club “do not want to build up expectations” as Charlton prepare for League One football.

The Addicks’ four-year stay in the Championship came to an end earlier this month, with the team only winning eight league games this term.

Looking ahead to next season, Meire said: “We don’t want to build up expectations.

“We will have one of [the] top six budgets in League One.

“Hopefully on the back of the successful season, we can rebuild.”

The Charlton chief executive also reiterated that owner Roland Duchatelet is not looking to sell the club, despite widespread opposition from fans.

Supporters have protested against the Belgian tycoon throughout the season and last weekend staged a striking march to the Valley which was backed by thousands.

“As stated before the club is not for sale,” Meire added.

“The only way to get out of this is to work together with the fans on the current issues, so hopefully the fans won’t see a sale as the only option.”
