Charlton striker Tony Watt has been ruled out for the remainder of the season while his loan stint at Blackburn has been cut short.

The Scottish international picked up an injury during Rovers’ clash against Preston last Saturday.

After a scan revealed the groin problem would rule him out until the summer, Watt has returned to the Valley.

Blackburn boss Paul Lambert said: “Tony is on his way back to Charlton, that is his season over.

“He’s gone to see the doctors down in London – it is going to be a few months.

“He was excellent for us on and off the pitch, a good guy, a talented player and obviously we've lost him at a time when we've needed him around.

“We thank him for his efforts coming here and he's got to go back down to Charlton.”

Watt, 22, joined Blackburn at the end of January, scoring on his debut for the club against Oxford in the FA Cup.

He only mustered up one further goal for Rovers, though, and will return to the Valley with his long-term future unknown.
