Yaya Sanogo should be banned for the rest of the season for a ‘disgusting’ elbow on MK Dons defender Antony Kay, according to Karl Robinson.

The Arsenal striker, currently on loan with Charlton until the end of the season, was shown a straight red after an off-the-ball incident at the end of the 0-0 draw at the Valley.

The Dons players, furious by the incident, surrounded the 23-year-old until he was dismissed by the referee.

French forward Sanogo is set to miss three games but Robinson suggested a bigger punishment would have been warranted.

“It was disgusting," Robinson was quoted as saying by the Milton Keynes Citizen.

“He should be banned for the rest of the season for that. He’s clearly, off the ball, had a go and then a second one.

“It’s not acceptable. He could have broken his jaw.

“Rob Hall too was clotheslined on the far side of the pitch.

“Some of the tackles were borderline assault. I was expecting to see the police in the tunnel at full time to be honest.”

Meanwhile, Addicks’ boss Jose Riga said he did not see the incident but revealed that Sanogo apologised to the team in the dressing room.

He said: “I haven’t seen it but he apologised so I guess he did something.

“It’s part of the big frustration this season and the reaction isn’t good, that’s for sure.

“We don’t need this in our situation. I know we are all nervous about the situation of Charlton but we must master our situation."
