Exciting prospect Ademola Lookman has signed a new deal with Charlton Athletic until 2020.

The 18-year-old has made a significant impact at the Valley since breaking into the first-team in November.

Lookman scored three goals in three Championship games before a hamstring injury ruled him out of several games over the Christmas period.

During the January transfer window Lookman was linked with several Premier League clubs, with Arsenal, Tottenham and Southampton just three of several clubs interested in securing his services.

But the young star has now agreed a new contract with the South Londoners, committing his future to the club until the summer of 2020.

He said: “It’s a great feeling to have signed. This club is very important to me and I’m very grateful for the chance Charlton have given me.

“I wanted to repay my debt because I owe something to this club. Giving myself until 2020 is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time now. I’m pleased it’s finally done.”

Meanwhile, Belgian boss Jose Riga said: “I am so pleased for Ademola, he’s a terrific talent who has worked hard to achieve this contract.

“I am also happy for us, the squad, for the club and for the fans because I think we have in Ademola a special player who can be an important part of our future.”

The news will provide Charlton fans with some timely relief after their dismal run in the Championship.

Last night’s 2-1 defeat at Preston was the Addicks’ 18th league defeat of the season and saw the gap to safety increase to seven points.
