Jose Riga has provided an extensive injury update ahead of Charlton’s trip to Fulham on Saturday.

Several first-team regulars have picked up injuries in the last few weeks – most recently skipper Johnnie Jackson and Jordan Cousins during the goalless draw with Cardiff.

Riga, 58, has confirmed that Jackson will miss the fixture at Craven Cottage and says midfielder Cousins is another doubt.

He told News Shopper: “Jacko will be out for around two weeks. It’s not too bad but obviously he won’t be operational for the next game.

“Jordan feels better and today he was running, but the game on Saturday is perhaps too early. I don’t want to make stupid risks because we know how important he is to the team.

“We will make the decision not just based on the next game but the whole season.”

Striker Igor Vetokele has missed Charlton’s last two games with a hamstring problem and, despite returning to training today, will be assessed tomorrow to determine his fitness for the weekend.

The Angolan forward will be a big loss if unavailable.

“He trained with us today but it’s about having an assessment day by day so we will see tomorrow,” Riga said.

“He’s close to being completely fit.”

Meanwhile, on-loan Arsenal man Yaya Sanogo is another doubt for the South Londoners after suffering back pain in training.

The 23-year-old impressed from the bench last week but could be set to miss out as Charlton take on the Cottagers.

“Yaya did well – I was happy with his performance. He’s done well in training but now he’s got pain in his back so I’m not sure he will part of the next game.”

When asked whether new signings Marco Motta, Rod Fanni and Yun Suk-Young are now match-fit, Riga added: “With Motta and Young – they play with the U21s, I know there’s a big difference [to first-team football] but their fitness level are good.

“We think that they will be ready soon.”

While Charlton face an anxious wait over the fitness of several regulars, long-term absentee Alou Diarra is nearing a return and trained with the squad today.

Defender Patrick Bauer is also building up to a much-needed return, with Riga saying there have been no complications in his treatment.

He said: “Alou was part of training today – of course with what he had we need to be wary but the news is good for him also.

“Bauer will take more time but at this time we don’t see any complications in his treatment – he’s on the pitch, he can run. In the next few weeks we will have both back.”
