Jorge Teixeira admits every game will now be like a cup final for Charlton until the end of the season.

The Addicks dropped to the foot of the table following a 1-0 home defeat to relegation rivals Bristol City on Saturday.

Lee Tomlin’s 21st-minute penalty was enough to see off a Charlton team which lacked any kind of creative spark.

Now, Teixeira insists the next three games - against Cardiff, Preston and Fulham - could be the most important of his career.

He said: “Maybe for the importance they are the biggest, but for me I go to win every game, like always.

“We have 16 more games and we know that every game is going to be like a cup final for us.

“With the support of the fans, we have to be positive, work hard and see what happens.

“Only us players, the coach and staff can move forward and we are going to do everything to do that.”

Teixeira was signed by Jose Riga from Standard Liege last month and has already formed an impressive defensive partnership with Harry Lennon.

The 29-year-old added: “I’ve been here for two weeks and I didn’t know much about the Championship.

“I had a good welcome and I speak with Harry sometimes about the opponents, and with the coach, because I really don’t know them.

“I think we have a good connection – in the last few games we didn’t concede too many goals.

“We just have to keep working and try not to let them score in the next game.”

The Portuguese defender’s teammate Morgan Fox was booed and then sarcastically cheered when he was substituted in the 78th minute against the Robins.

But, when asked if the jeers hindered the players, Lisbon-born Teixeira says he was too concentrated to notice.

He said: “I didn’t pay attention to this because I’m always focused on the game.

“I don’t listen to what the fans say during the match.”
