Crystal Palace have moved closer to signing ex-Tottenham and Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor, according to reports.

The Togolese forward has been without a club since September, when by mutual consent he was released from Spurs.

Adebayor has maintained his fitness since leaving White Hart Lane and hopes to revitalise his career at another Premier League club.

According to the Mirror, Palace are ready to sign the forward, who made 59 league appearances for Tottenham and played over 100 games for the Gunners.

The Eagles have tracked a host of goalscorers this month but have been priced out of several deals.

However, it is claimed that a move for Adebayor is close and that the 31-year-old could even sign this week ahead of Palace’s trip to Manchester City.

Harry Redknapp, a former manager of Adebayor, has urged clubs interested in the striker to secure his signature.

The 68-year-old said in his Evening Standard column: “If any manager rang me about signing Emmanuel Adebayor, I’d have a simple message: take him until the end of the season. You can’t lose.

“When you look around at what is available in the market this month, Adebayor on a free transfer until the end of the season is a no-brainer.

“Swansea, Norwich, Sunderland, Newcastle, Aston Villa or anyone struggling at the lower end of the table should be looking at him.”
