Alan Pardew has held talks with Crystal Palace over a new long-term contract at Selhurst Park, according to the Guardian.

The 54-year-old manager has enjoyed remarkable success since taking the job last winter, lifting the club from a relegation spot to a top-half finish in the Premier League.

The Eagles have made an equally impressive start to the current campaign and currently sit sixth – level on points with Manchester United and Tottenham.

Pardew, a former Palace midfielder, has two-and-a-half years left on his current contract but the club are reportedly desperate to tie him down on a longer deal.

The Guardian say that co-chairman Steve Parish and American investors Josh Harris and David Blitzer, who both secured 18% stakes in Palace last week, view Pardew as a central figure in the club’s long-term development.

Pardew has been mentioned as a potential successor to Roy Hodgson within the England set-up and the hierarchy at Selhurst Park is desperate to secure the manager’s long-term services.
