Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle is being targeted by Championship club Derby County, who are looking to bolster their attacking options in January, reports say.

Due to injury and inconsistent form, Gayle has only played 10 games this season and is yet to score a Premier League goal.

The former Peterborough goal-scorer is said to have fallen out of favour with Palace boss Alan Pardew, who himself is searching the market for threats in front of goal.

According to The Sun, Rams boss Paul Clement is eager on securing Gayle’s services in a loan deal and wants the club to pay £35,000-a-week to push the switch through.

Derby have made a superb start to the season, climbing to second in the Championship, but Clement believes the club still require more attacking potency if they are to secure Premier League football next season.

It is claimed that Gayle, 25, who signed for Palace in July 2013, is reluctant to make the drop to the second tier of English football but could be swayed by a loan move.

The striker has netted 18 goals across the past two years but has endured a dip in form at Selhurst Park and has been strongly linked with a January exit.
