Karel Fraeye blasted Charlton’s game management after the Addicks surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at home to Bolton this evening.

The Addicks stormed into the lead with Ademola Lookman scoring a first-half brace, which included a strike after just 26 seconds.

However, bottom-placed Bolton came back strongly and Emile Heskey tapped home before Josh Vela’s long-range strike beat Stephen Henderson shortly before half-time.

Despite late chances - including a Harry Lennon header which glanced across the crossbar - neither side were able to find a winner in a result which ensured Charlton dropped back into the relegation zone.

“A point at home against Bolton is useless,” Fraeye said.

“We started the game and played decent football, the way we handled the game after the second goal is not the way Charlton need to do it.

“Maybe we lacked confidence, I had the feeling we were over-confident and we forgot how we managed to get to 2-0.

“We got punished and then we have 45 minutes to try and play our game at home and we don’t manage which makes me, not disappointed, very angry.

“When we play at home to Bolton it is Charlton who needs to dictate the play not the other way around.

“I cannot be happy with what we produced in the last 60 minutes.”

Charlton appeared to be cruising to a vital win after the impressive Lookman, who has been scouted by several Premier League clubs this season, slotted his effort past Ben Amos in the first minute.

The exciting youngster added a second midway through the first half after finishing off Ricardo Vaz Te’s neat cut back.

However, the Addicks defence looked fragile throughout and former England striker Heskey halved the deficit with a tap-in, before Henderson was beaten from range.

The hosts were inches away from regaining the lead with 15 minutes remaining, only for Lennon’s header to stroke the bar.

Jeers were directed at misfiring striker Simon Makienok after he came on in the second half, and Fraeye himself was subjected to a barrage of boos when he headed down the tunnel.

Interim Head Coach Fraeye said: “I know. For every manager it is the same, when a team wins it is great, maybe it’s because of the manager.

“When a team loses there’s only one reason – the manager. That’s the way it goes in football.

“If people think they have to do that [ironically cheer Makienok for winning a header] to motivate a player – if they think that’s the right way – then that’s what they have to do.”

Lookman, who now has three goals for Charlton following his first professional strike against Brighton, was replaced by Makienok in the second half – much to the frustration of the home fans.

However, Fraeye explained that the 18-year-old was struggling with injury shortly before the substitution.

The Belgian said: “We cannot forgot that he’s come from U18 and U21 football, now he’s playing 90 minutes every week and he was injured – or close to injury, so I think it was fair that we took him off.

“It would have been crazy to keep him on the pitch when a player is slightly injured.

“Johann Berg Gudmundsson also asked for a sub, he has a small injury.

“But there are no excuses today and they [the players] know it.”
