Johnnie Jackson has praised Charlton interim boss Karel Fraeye for restoring his mojo after the 1-0 win at Birmingham.

The Addicks skipper scored his 50th goal for the club with a 61st minute bullet header - making sure the South Londoners climbed out of the relegation zone.

Since the Belgian manager took over, Jackson has started all four of his games in charge.

The match-winner said: “I’ve got to give the coach loads of credit.

“He’s made me the buffer between himself and the changing room which is really important at a club.

“I think that was missing a bit under the last manager - he wasn't really one for dialogue but that’s fine as it was his way.

“Karel obviously sees it differently and for me, it’s worked out well - he’s put me back in the side which has given me a lot of confidence and made me feel important.”

The league win in the Midlands was Charlton’s first from home since the 3-0 triumph at Blackpool last March.

It resulted in back-to-back wins but Jackson insists that the players’ feet will stay firmly on the ground.

He added: “We can’t get too carried away because two games don’t mean anything - we need to put a run together.

“I said to the boys after the game that Birmingham are a top six team, Sheffield Wednesday were an inform team and we’ve beaten them.

“So you’re telling me that we can’t be as good as other sides or better than them?

“We’ve won two on the bounce so do we take our foot off the gas? No.

“We have another big game against Ipswich so let’s make it three and see where it takes us.”

Although Jackson’s contribution was vital, a couple of youngsters were hugely impressive.

Ademola Lookman, 18, shone on his first league start - while Tareiq Holmes-Dennis provided the cross for the winner.

Jackson admitted relief at not having to wait too long for his 50th goal - the 33-year-old lingered on 199 Charlton appearances for six months.

He said: “It’s a very proud moment to get my 50th goal for the club.

“The lads gave me a bit of stick in the changing room saying how I only score with my head and not my feet but I don't care how they go in.

“People made me aware during the week that I was on 49 so I was hoping that I wouldn't have to wait too long to reach 50.

“It’s a nice achievement.”
