Crystal Palace secured three points from their clash with Liverpool on Sunday, but Alan Pardew has revealed that the players also gained an extra day off from the victory.

Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho cancelled out Yannick Bolasie’s 21st minute opener at Anfield, only for defender Scott Dann to nod in the winner with ten minutes remaining.

The victory came off the back of the Eagles’ 0-0 draw with Manchester United and propelled the south London club back into the top eight of the Premier League.

"I promised the guys an extra day off so fair play to them. They can book some flights now," Pardew said after the win.

"We came here with ambition. The worst thing that happened to us was scoring, we then lost the ambition. Liverpool came on to us.

"We went toe-to-toe against Manchester United and got a draw, we went toe-tote toe with Liverpool and got the win."

Pardew, 54, reserved special praise for winger Wilfried Zaha, who was one of the stand-out performers for Palace and performed his defensive duties admirably.

"I thought Wilfried had one of his best games for Crystal Palace," the Palace boss added.

"His defensive work was important too. Wilf had to do a job on Philippe Coutinho and he did that. I was very pleased for him.
