Crystal Palace have joined the race to sign Inter Milan defender Andrea Ranocchia, reports in Italy say.

The 27-year-old centre-back, who has made over 120 appearances for the Italian giants, has been the subject of substantial interest from a host of European clubs.

Ranocchia has become an influential member of Inter’s dressing room since joining from Genoa in 2011, enjoying a spell as the club’s captain.

However, the Italy international has struggled to feature under Roberto Mancini and Gazzetta World say a move during the January transfer window is possible.

Alan Pardew’s former club, Newcastle United, are said to be leading the race to secure the defender’s signature, although Tottenham, Everton and Palace have all been linked with a deal.

Ranocchia, who is valued at around £9million, featured in Italy’s 1-1 friendly draw against England earlier in the year.
