Great resilience by Welling was undone when former Wing Dominic Vose crashed a 90th minute winner for Wrexham.

They looked set to be rewarded for their hard work but a long ball was only half cleared and Vose was quickest to react before firing home from the edge of the penalty area.

Endeavour by Xavier Vidal won Welling an early corner. Ricky Wellard delivered, Kevin Lokko flicked on, and George Porter rose to head just wide.

Reece Harris then had a shot saved by Cameron Belford but a tackle at the expense of a corner stopped Vidal from finishing.

Cheers from Wrexham supporters were to no avail when Javan Vidal netted from Wes York's cross but a corner had already been awarded.

After that, the hosts lifted the tempo and Tom King was called upon to make two good saves at the near post from attacks down the right wing. Then James Gray shot wide from distance as the hosts looked to break the deadlock.

Adriano Moke gave the Wrexham supporters palpitations when caught in possession as the last man but he managed to dribble his way out of danger.

Gray just failed to reach another York cross as Wrexham continued to push for the opener. Vose, then had a shot blocked before his follow up effort was smothered by King.

Robbie Evans was next to be thwarted by King when Wrexham again broke through. Then a defensive allowed Vose another opportunity to shoot but he missed the far post by inches.

There was still time in the first half for Vose to work himself in again but his clever effort went just over.

Porter had an audacious effort for Welling that went wide from 45 yards just before the break.

York had an effort saved by King in the first minute of the second half as the hosts looked to come out quickly.

Moke then created a great opportunity, eventually finding York in acres of space but the King narrowed the angle well and the Wrexham striker failed to hit the target.

Connor Jennings fired wide from distance when feeding on another misplaced Welling pass, then York scuffed into the arms of King before Gray fired over from eight yards out.

Having seen out the pressure, the visitors came more into the game. Sam Corne got on the end of their best move but Belford made a good block at his near post.

At the other end, King had to be alert to push over an effort from Vose from 25 yards.

Lokko headed wide from a Wellard free kick in the latter stages but there was late pain to come for the Wings.

Substitute Adam Smith tried a curler that was saved before Vose smashed home on 90 minutes.
