Charlton defender Patrick Bauer believes the unbeaten Addicks can be very pleased with their points return so far after the first two league matches.

An opening day win over QPR was followed up by a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Derby County on Saturday.

And the summer arrival from CS Maritmo insists the results against promotion favourites represent a fine beginning to the campaign.

Bauer said: “We’ve faced two strong teams in the league now and we can be happy with the results that we’ve achieved from the two matches.

“The key for us now is to recover ahead of Tuesday’s game at Nottingham Forest – that’s the next challenge for us now and we’ll be heading there looking to get three points to continue our good start.”

Tony Watt’s early second half strike was cancelled out by a Chris Martin leveller at the iPro Stadium on Saturday as the game finished all square.

But Bauer emphasised the impressive nature of the point gained against Paul Clement’s fancied squad.

He explained: “I think we can be very happy with the point because Derby have shown that they have a very good side.

“They put a lot of pressure on us this afternoon too, and I think we defended against them well for the majority of the game.

“So at the end a draw is a good result for us.”

Having seen out another full 90 minutes for Guy Luzon’s men on Saturday, Bauer has now played all 270 minutes of the Addicks’ campaign so far and feels he is adapting well to Championship life.

He said: “I’ve settled in well here in England.

“I’ve played two league games now and I think I’ve done well, and I enjoyed my game in the cup too.

“But you can’t really compare this league with the Portuguese league because it’s much stronger here in England, whereas at home it’s much more technical.

“So I think I’ve adapted well and I’d like to think I can continue putting in good performances.”

It was a solid defensive display all round from the Londoners in the East Midlands on Saturday, with Bauer praising his fellow central defensive partner, as well as the keeper behind them.

He added: “Alou Diarra is very experienced.

“I can learn a lot of things playing alongside him, and I’m enjoying it so far.

“Nick is a great guy, a very good goalkeeper and a promising talent.

“He’s shown that with his performances in the last three games and I’m confident when he’s behind me in goal.”
