Charlton striker Igor Vetokele feels he is close to being match fit again after being struck by a troublesome Achilles injury last season.

The Angola international travelled with the squad to Belgium last week before returning to London and starting in Saturday’s friendly at Dulwich Hamlet.

Vetokele led the line for a strong Charlton side which featured the likes of Chris Solly, Rhoys Wiggins and skipper Johnnie Jackson, with the latter scoring the second for the Addicks just before half-time.

Trialists Joe Aribo and Jake Sinclair got the other goals for Jason Euell’s side in a 3-2 victory and Vetokele believes the match at Champion Hill Stadium will help in his quest for full fitness.

He said: “I feel like I’m getting close to match fit every day.

“I’m getting there but I just need to keep on going and working.

“I also need to take good care of my Achilles and then everything should be OK.”

Charlton confirmed pre-match Metz midfielder Ahmed Kashi would be joining the club to become the fourth signing of the summer for Guy Luzon’s men.

And Vetokele is hoping his side can add a few more before the season opener against QPR.

The striker said: “It is good news that we have signed another player.

“It’s always great to hear about new bodies coming into the club and going to training.

“At the moment we have a small squad.

“Hopefully we can get more in and keep everyone fit.”

The Addicks are set to welcome Premier League West Ham to The Valley this Saturday and the former Copenhagen forward believes the friendly will benefit Charlton ahead of the new Championship campaign.

He said: “We obviously want to do better than last year but we are going to have to play with more consistency.

“The game against West Ham will be a good test as they are in the Premier League and we can see how close we are to being ready.

“I’m really looking forward to it.”

Meanwhile, Rhoys Wiggins will be assessed during the week after picking up an ankle injury during the game at Dulwich.

Keeper Stephen Henderson missed the match at Champion Hill as a precaution following a knock in the warm-up.

Charlton’s next friendly is at Dagenham & Redbridge on Wednesday evening.
