Striker Tony Watt admits the most important thing for him this season is playing as many minutes as possible for the Addicks.

Having only arrived in SE7 in January from Standard Liege, the Scotsman quickly endeared himself to The Valley faithful and is fully embracing life under his old boss in Belgium Guy Luzon.

Watt scored five times for the Addicks, a tally he hopes to improve on during the upcoming campaign.

He said: “I’m aiming very much for double figures this season, but the team as whole is more important.

“We’ll just be looking to win every game.

“Sometimes it’s not about personal goals, collective goals are more vital.

“I want to do well with Charlton. I love it here - I just want to play games.”

The striker played in the first half of Saturday’s 2-0 win at Welling and felt the Wings posed a decent pre-season challenge.

Watt said: “They were a good test and despite being in the Conference, you know they’ll always provide good opposition.

“They had some good individuals.

“I’m a bit tired after my first 45 minutes, but I tried hard for the time I was on the pitch.

“Pre-season will never match the intensity of the proper season, and I tried a few things out today too, but I’m glad to get the minutes so now I’m looking to push on.”

The Welling win was down to an impressive early double from youngster Karlan Ahearne-Grant, who partnered Watt in the opening period.

And the more experienced Scotsman was impressed with the goal scorer’s contribution.

Watt explained: “Karlan’s a great player, I see it with him in training every day and he took his two goals really well early on today.

“He did well to get on the scoresheet and I think he’s impressed everyone today.”

Head coach Guy Luzon has added three new faces to the Addicks’ squad so far in pre-season.

Simon Makienok, Patrick Bauer and El Hadji-Ba have all arrived in SE7 and Watt was enthusiastic about the impact they have made so far.

He added: “I’ve seen the new lads in training and they’ve settled in well.

“I’ve been impressed with them.

“They’re very calm on the ball and they fit into what we’re trying to do very well.”
