Simon Makienok is confident Charlton can get off to a good start despite the Addicks’ tough looking fixture list beginning at home to QPR on August 8.

The Danish international became the south-east London club’s third signing of the summer when he arrived in SE7 on a season-long loan from Serie A outfit Palermo earlier this month.

And despite facing two sides relegated from the Premier League last season in QPR and Hull City within the opening month, Makienok is eager to show why Charlton should not be underestimated this upcoming campaign.

He said: “I always think it’s important for any team to get off to a good start.

“If we get a good start, come away from the bottom and aim towards the high places in the league, then that will show that we are a great side.

“I haven’t thought about how many points we want to begin with, we just need to show that we can have a good season.”

At 6ft 7in, the 24-year-old is set to become Charlton’s tallest ever player.

And the former Brondby striker believes his height will suit the Championship.

“I would describe myself as a tall striker with a lot of physical strength,” revealed Makienok.

“But I also have a pretty good technique so I can be involved with the ball at my feet and shoot with both legs.

“I’m a typical tall player who’s not the fastest but very technical.

“I know the Championship quite well and I always thought it would be a great league to play in.”
