Former Charlton defender Chris Perry has been appointed Millwall’s U16s coach.

Perry spent three years at The Valley during the Addicks’ Premier League spell after joining from Spurs in 2003 and went on to represent West Brom, Luton and Southampton before retiring in 2010.

The ex-defender started out in south London at Wimbledon and will be linking up again with current Millwall youth chief Scott Fitzgerald who he played alongside with at the Dons.

Perry told millwallfc.co.uk: “Academy director Scott Fitzgerald, who I knew from my Wimbledon days, made me aware of the vacancy and it was an opportunity that really excited me.

"The young players are being given the chance to progress through to the first team at Millwall now, and there is a very promising group coming through at U15 and U16 levels, so I'm looking to help them take the next step towards the senior ranks.

“In the process I want to encourage them to be creative, play entertaining football and score goals.”
