Crystal Palace goalkeeper Julian Speroni wants his team-mates to put the weekend defeat to Hull City behind them, beginning with an upset at Chelsea.

The keeper was arguably Palace’s best player on Saturday, but he was helpless to prevent relegation-threatened Hull from grabbing all three points at Selhurst Park.

Speroni now wants his side to focus on beating last season’s tally of 45 points, and some kind of result at Stamford Bridge on Sunday would be a perfect way to forget about the past two unexpected home defeats.

He said: “It was a disappointing result, we need to put it behind us.

Crystal Palace: Pardew at a loss to why Eagles failed to get off the ground against Tigers

“It shows you how tough this league is - you have to be at your best all the time, every single minute of every game.

“The past two games have shown you that there are no easy games - anything can happen.”

He added: “Don’t write us off, we have still got four games to go and will try to get as many points as possible.”

After a promising opening, which saw Glenn Murray and Wilfried Zaha both denied by Hull keeper Steve Harper, Palace failed to create many opportunities in the second half and Speroni believes that all the credit should go to the Tigers.

He said: “I think they played really well.

“We shouldn’t take anything away from them - they put us under pressure. I don’t think it caught us by surprise, it was just one of those days.”
