A Charlton fan has been banned from attending any football matches for three years after throwing a bottle on the pitch.

James Henry, 28, of Heath Court in Stanley Close, New Eltham, pleaded guilty to causing disorder at the Millwall vs Charlton game on April 3.

Henry has been banned from attending any football matches in England for three years and is banned from entering the area around The Valley four hours prior to a match.

He was also fined £220 and made to pay court charges.

A Charlton Athletic spokesman said: "The club welcomes the banning order imposed on the Charlton supporter for throwing a bottle onto the pitch at Millwall earlier this month.

"Charlton Athletic will not tolerate anti-social behaviour by any of its supporters. We work hard to ensure fans who attend games at The Valley and any of our away fixtures can do so in complete safety.

"We are pleased that Millwall were able to identify the culprit via their CCTV system and hope this incident serves as a reminder to all football fans that anyone involved in any form of anti-social behaviour can expect to be dealt with accordingly."

Eighteen-year-old Kane Cantell, of no fixed abode, was also fined £35 after he pleaded guilty to running on the pitch during the game.

Cantell's previous good behaviour was taken into account in the sentencing.

Both men were sentenced at Bromley Magistrates' Court on April 17.
