Guy Luzon refused to single out Roger Johnson for criticism after his error set up Blackburn’s second goal in today’s 3-1 win over Charlton.

Rovers broke the deadlock after quarter of an hour when Jordan Rhodes latched on to Ben Marshall’s throw in and the prolific striker’s angled shot went in off the post.

The advantage was doubled three minutes later, a mistake by Johnson gifting an opening to Craig Conway and he took full advantage by bursting into the box before firing past Stephen Henderson.

But Valley head coach Luzon was in forgiving mood afterwards, pointing out these things are part and parcel of the game.

“I don’t need to say nothing,” the Israeli replied when asked what he had said to Johnson at half-time in the dressing room.

“He has raised his head and he needs to continue because this kind of mistake is part of the game.

“It has happened.

“Today Blackburn were out to punish us but we don’t need to now create a big problem because it is OK, it is part of the game.”

Charlton were handed a lifeline 12 minutes into the second half as Igor Vetokele was sent to ground by Jason Steele.

Blackburn’s keeper was perhaps fortunate to only pick up a yellow card but justice was done when Yoni Buyens he sent Steele the wrong way from the spot.

Luzon said: “Now it is not important what I think about the situation because the referee took the decision and we accept it.

“We accept the penalty.”

Vetokele had clipped the woodwork in the first half and then saw a header hit the bar after the penalty, while Tony Watt fired inches wide as Charlton pressed hard for an equaliser.

Luzon said: “Igor also hit the bar in each half.

“In the second half Tony also had a situation to score so we had the situations to come back and we tried to play positive, but we lose this game because we didn’t concentrate in defence and were without aggression.”

And that lack of concentration at the back was fully exposed again in the 78th minute as more sloppy defending was punished by the unmarked Rhodes, who restored the two-goal cushion with a simple header.

Luzon said: “We started the game well.

“I think the personal mistakes in our goal when we concede a little bit broke our spirit for 15/20 minutes.

“After that in the second half we come back, we score and we have some chances also – semi chances in the first half and in the second half we had chances to come back.

“Their third goal came from a deflection and the game is over but we gave everything in the second half and tried to play positive and to create chances.

“I think it was a little bit our aggression in defence – we played a bit without aggression – and also this was reflected in the attack.

“We moved the ball but sometimes we moved the ball not quickly and because of that we didn’t punish them.

“But we had the chance to score more than one.”
