Former Charlton manager Chris Powell says he has “moved on” from his controversial dismissal less than a year ago.

Powell took the Addicks back to the Championship in 2012 after leading them to a runaway League One title success.

A top 10 finish was delivered the following May but things turned sour when the SE7 side were taken over by Roland Duchatelet in January 2014 and Powell resisted the current owner’s demands to play certain players who had been signed from the Belgian’s network of clubs.

The fans’ favourite was then dismissed following a lacklustre 2-0 FA Cup quarter-final defeat at Sheffield United last March.

But with Powell set to make his first Valley return with new side Huddersfield later this month, the Terriers chief says he is concentrating solely on gaining three points for the Yorkshire side who handed him a route back into the game after his Valley split.

He explained: “Obviously a lot has gone on since I left the football club.

“I think it is well documented why I stood up to what was going on.

“A couple of Belgian managers have done the same thing and it is ongoing there.

“I love the place, I will always love that football club because I played for them and obviously managed them, but I’ve moved on to be honest with you.

“It will be great to go back but I’m at a very good football club now which I’m really proud and honoured to be the manager and be a part of.

“But I’m looking forward to it (Charlton game).

“I’ll have plenty of friends and family there but it will be about what we do on the day, so apart from shaking a few hands and waving to one or two people, I’ll be focused on the game and doing my best to get a result.”

Powell was speaking immediately after Huddersfield deepened Millwall’s relegation fears with a 3-1 away win at the Den on Saturday.

He admitted: “Being an ex-Charlton player and manager, and having a season at West Ham, coming to Millwall is always a tall order.

“It is a tall order for any team and it has been a very, very good day for us away from home against a side in and around us.

“Because of how tight the division is we knew we had to take something from the game and it is quite easily my best performance as manager considering all what went on and going down to 10-men.”
