Millwall’s Sid Nelson revealed his admiration for John Terry after following in the Chelsea defender’s footsteps by captaining his team at only 19.
In only his fourth senior appearance, Nelson was surprisingly selected to lead Millwall in Saturday’s Championship fixture with Ipswich.
The defeat, by a scoreline of 3-1, was their sixth from seven consecutive games but also represented an improved performance and, in Nelson’s continuing emergence, gave rare reason for optimism.
“John Terry captained Chelsea when he was 19 and I've done that for my team, so it’s a dream come true,” Nelson said.
“I massively look up to Terry – he’s got determination and grit, and he’s good on the ball.
“Obviously I look up to Robbo (Paul Robinson), Alan Dunne and Danny Shittu as well – the senior pros who have been there and done it in the game.
“I try to mould myself on players like that because I've still got a lot of learning to do.”
