Bob Peeters has warned Joe Pigott not to expect first-team football when he returns from Newport County.

The young forward has scored three times in 10 appearances since joining the League Two side on loan.

He will leave County after Saturday’s fixture at Bury because the Welsh side can no longer afford his wages, and Peeters has suggested his playing progress could suffer as a consequence.

“I think the best thing for Joe was to stay there because he was playing games, he was scoring goals, he was getting a better player,” the Belgian said.

“If they don’t extend his loan and he’s coming back, then he has two options.

“He goes to another team on loan or he fights for a spot.

“But I can’t guarantee that he’s going to get minutes over here.”

Charlton are hoping striker Igor Vetokele passes a late fitness test to feature against Millwall on Saturday.
