Millwall manager Ian Holloway said that relief was not an emotion running through his head after the Lions beat Cardiff City at The Den.

The victory, Millwall’s first in the Championship since August 30th, was secured through Danny Shittu’s towering second-half header.

And afterwards the Lion boss revealed that people who feel relief should not be involved in football and that he puts more pressure on himself than anyone else does.

He said: “That is a terrible word because its never relief.

“I’m pleased because we got what we deserved and if you feel relief in football then you should be here because you only ever got three imposters; a draw, a defeat or a win.

“They’re all imposters, sometime you don’t deserve them and sometimes you do. All you can do is work on the process and that’s been there for us all season.

“Today my goalkeeper made a fantastic double save and in recent weeks those chances have been bobbling in, but that changed the game.

“The first goal was vital. We got it and we looked strong. We had a really good spell after that and I was delighted that Danny got it. He was immense.

“Relief is never the word. That’s 846 games I’ve managed now and I’ve never been relieved. I put more pressure on myself than anyone can dream of.”

Holloway made a number of changes to his starting 11, with match-winner Shittu coming in for Byron Webster at the back.

And the Lions boss was delighted that he was able to shuffle his pack without it having an affect on the fluidity of his side.

“I’m pleased that I could make five or six changes and the group was still as consistent as it had been,” he said.

“Every change that I made was to freshen up the team and the people I brought in did really well. Those that I left out took it really well.

“Really, we made it hard for ourselves because we had a couple of chances that we should’ve taken. We should’ve been more comfortable.

“It could’ve been easier but you’ve got to take your chances. Lee Gregory is looking an absolute threat and probably should’ve score two goals today.

“His run for the first chance over the top was immense, though. Scott McDonald was excellent again, so was Lee Martin and we looked solid and not a bad team.

“Andy Wilkinson has been sensational. He’s only had a day’s training with us and that’s unreal. Its like he’s been with us all of his life.”
