With an already short squad for their F.A. Cup match at Maidstone United on Saturday, Welling United did not want to risk further problems so went into the London Senior Cup game with Cockfosters with a second string team.

To add to their difficulties, their Development squad had played and won an F.A. Trophy match the previous night so Welling were unable to use many players from that squad.

As a result, only Micheal Dillon and Charlie Penny remained from the team that was knocked out of the Kent Senior Cup seven days earlier.

Under the circumstances, the very young team did well against a more experienced adult side and stretched them fully.

Joel Hanington in the Welling goal made an outstanding save from Aron Crockett in the early stages and was called into action again when saving from Lasselle Simon.

Junior Adeoye clipped thr crossbar with a header before the visitors went ahead through Desi Dadomo in the 31st minute.

Another Hanington save from Simon followed before Welling came close just before the break.

Jack Mallon's wizardry gave him the chance to cross and Penny's clean header flew just wide of the near post.

Two minutes after the break, Welling levelled. Dillon's deep free kick caused chaos in the penalty area and after two shots were blocked Tony Robinson lashed home.

Parity did not last long and Adeoye's strength gave him the opportunity to cross and Crockett bundled home at the near post.

Harry Wootton came second best in a crunching 50-50 challenge and had to be carried from the field of play.

Jordan Adekunie fired over as Welling enjoyed a good spell and Tarkan Mersin put through a serious of searching through balls with Craig Hewett stretching the Cockfosters defence.

Sam Bailey had a shot beaten out by Gary Malone before Hewett thought he had equalised however the referee deemed that Ben Small had cleared off the line rather than behind it.

Adam Ali ended Welling's hopes when he scored a solo goal in the 79th minute.
