David Forde is set to make a bit of Millwall history when he equals Eamon Dunphy’s record as the club’s most capped player.
The Lions number one was a virtual spectator in Saturday’s 7-0 win for Ireland over Group D joke outfit Gibraltar in Dublin.
But Forde knows it will be a very different test when they take on the World Cup winners in their own backyard – a game which will see him win his 22nd cap to become Millwall’s joint top international appearance holder alongside fellow Irishman Dunphy.
The keeper said: “It is polar opposites – a newly formed team in Gibraltar and now you are coming up against the world champions.
“To win against Gibraltar was a fantastic result because it is hard to win in these situations because if you win marginally we should have done better, if you win by seven goals like we did then we should have done that.
“They are difficult nights - the main thing is that we got the result. It is six points on the board and we are on the plane to Germany.
“It is huge at whatever level to keep a clean sheet and I’m absolutely delighted.
“I thought we played some great stuff and it is gives us a big lift going into Tuesday night.”
