Joe Gomez has given Charlton’s promotion bid a huge boost by penning a three-year contract at The Valley.
The highly-rated England U19 defender has already been linked with the likes of Everton, Newcastle and Arsenal, but is staying put at The Valley following today’s signing of the new deal, which also includes an option of another year with the Addicks.
Gomez said: “I’m happy that it’s done and that I can push on now.
“It’s a relief because the intention was to get it done as quickly as possible. It’s taken a little while but it’s good that it’s done now and I’m happy.
“It’s nice that the young players here are being given a chance to play, that’s obviously exciting for us and it was a big incentive to sign.”
