Charlton keeper Stephen Henderson has revealed Bob Peeters wants his side to risk losing solitary points in order to gain three.

Saturday’s 0-0 stalemate with Middlesbrough was the Addicks’ sixth draw from their opening nine games of the Championship season.

And Henderson says the Belgian boss is eager for them to collect maximum points on a more regular basis, even if it means losing the odd game.

“The manager made a point of it on Friday,” said the Irish stopper.

“He’d rather us go for it and risk the draw to get the three points.

“Against Rotherham we were poor in the second half and didn’t deserve more than a point, but we were good on Saturday.

“Lawrie Wilson had that chance at the end and we had a few more opportunities. We were disappointed not to have won but it’s another point to our total.

“We can’t keep drawing games - we’re going to have to go for it.

“We’re quite strong at home and we really need to start turning those draws into wins.”

Middlesbrough were the better side in the opening half, though Frederic Bulot came closest to winning it for Charlton when he hit the inside of the post.

Wilson also saw a stoppage-time strike brilliantly saved by Dimi Konstantopoulos and Henderson felt they did enough overall to warrant the win.

“Judging on the second half performance, we were disappointed not to take all three points,” he said.

“But they’re a good side and they’ll be up there at the end of the season.

“It’s a clean sheet, another point and we move now.

“They had a difficult game in midweek and looked a bit leggy.

“I was expecting to be involved a bit more but I’ll take a quiet game every week if we get something out of it.

“The Championship is a tough league this year, there are a lot of quality sides and for us to be up there at this stage of the season is really good.”

Andre Bikey was involved in a scuffle with Patrick Bamford in the second half when chasing a loose ball.

The Boro bench felt that the Addicks defender had flung an arm into Bamford’s face, but Henderson did not see anything in it.

He said: “Bikey wears his heart on his sleeve and I’m sure he didn’t mean anything by it.

“The kid got up almost straight away and he looked alright.

“It was a very competitive game and neither of them had problems with each other afterwards.”
