Callum Harriott has held talks with Bob Peeters this week to find out why he isn’t starting for Charlton.

The 20-year-old midfielder has had to settle for a place on the bench in all Championship fixtures to date, although he was named in the starting XI for both League Cup ties.

Harriott’s goals were instrumental in keeping the club up last year but a change of manager in the summer, combined with heavy squad investment, means opportunities have been limited this time around, prompting a request to see the new gaffer.

Peeters said: “He knows that when you change your manager and you change the system he needs to adapt as a young player.

“I had a good meeting with him this week about what we expect and how we want him to progress.

“He is working very hard and he needs to wait now for a chance.

“It maybe he comes into the team and never goes out.”

Peeters was then asked what Harriott’s response had been during the meeting.

“He just asked the question where he stands and how he feels,” the head coach revealed.

“That’s no problem, I like when players are not happy from not playing because if all players are happy that they are on the bench then they are not professional.

“They need to push the players who are in the team to the highest level.

“If at certain stages they are better than the players who are playing then I will play them, no problem.”
