First goals of the season for Jake Gallagher and Tyrone Marsh eased Welling to their second victory of the season.

Visitors Lincoln City played a direct game but centre backs Chris Bush and Jamal Fyfield dealt wit all that was thrown at them and gave goalkeeper Jonathan Henly a reasonably comfortable home debut as the Wings kept their first clean sheet of the season,

Nat Brown made a brave defensive diving header from a Harry Beautyman header early on, picking up a knock that needed treatment.

Oluwatobi Sho-Silva and Tyrone Marsh both failed to hit the target as the Imps’ defence struggled to deal with the industry and movement of the Welling front men.

Sho-Silva then found himself clear of the back four and brought down a long through ball brilliantly but was unable to keep his balance to finish. Lincoln  broke out quickly and it took a brilliant block by Barney Williams to keep them out.

Sean Newton was cautioned for an off the ball assault on Marsh and Welling scored from the resultant free kick. Beautyman caused chaos with another excellent delivery and it broke for Gallagher to fire home. Brown was unable to continue and was replaced by Karl Ledsham.

After Zach Fagan had been booked Alan Power drilled a low shot wide.

Once again Sho-Silva worked himself free of the back four but as he squared up to shoot Arnaud Mendy made a last ditch saving tackle.

Fyfield met Beautyman’s corner with a powerful header that was saved brilliantly by Nick Townsend and when it came back out to him, Beautyman’s deflected cross struck the post.

At half time, Lincoln replaced Jon Nolan with Delano Sam-Yorke but failed to change their style of play to suit him.

Jamie Day was forced into making a change when Sho-Silva went down in pain with Joe Healy replacing him, then Sam Corne came on for Fagan.

Another low Marsh drive went wide of the near post before Lincoln missed their best chance. Although Jordan Burrow appeared to manhandle Bush to the ground, he was allowed to continue but snatched his shot beyond the far post.

Malachi Hudson then deceived Townsend with a cross that skimmed off the bar and Ben Jefford came close with a prod that was finger tipped beyond the far post.

Fourteen minutes remained when Welling scored the all important second goal. Marsh ignored a foul that had the assistant referee flagging furiously, and cut in before shooting low inside the near post.

Hudson then chipped just over with Townsend beaten before being replaced by Loui Fazakerley.

Lincoln offered little more and Fazakerley came close to adding a third that was well saved.

Welling United: Henly, Williams, Jefford, Gallagher, Bush, Fyfield, Beautyman, Fagan (Corne 57), Sho-Silva (Healy 54), Marsh. Hudson (Fazakerley 79). Unused substitutes: Turner, Baselle.
