Charlton striker Joe Pigott this afternoon linked up with League Two Newport County until November 22 after agreeing to the idea of a loan exit during recent discussions with head coach Bob Peeters.

The 20-year-old was named among the substitutes in the opening two games of the season against Brentford and Colchester but didn’t come on in either, failing to feature at all in the matchday squad since.

Pigott spent time on loan at Gillingham last season and today the Addicks academy product completed a similar switch to Newport.

Peeters said: “I had a good chat with Joe Piggott and I told him he needs to go out and experience and try to find out what a player he is because at this moment he is a young player.

“I think he has qualities but at this moment he needs games - not games with the U21s but games where they play for points and money.

“I’m very happy that he agreed and that he wants to go on loan to get some games under the belt and find out what a player he can be because I think at this moment mentally he is still hesitating.

“I think he has got a lot of qualities and hopefully he can show them.”
